Our School and American Eastern Michigan University Became Strategic Partners

 

Share High Quality Sino-US Educational Resources and Develop New Channels in International Development
——Our school and American Eastern Michigan University  became strategic partners

In order to “make children integrate into the world better, provide students with richer and better international educational resources and channels to study abroad, and develop new channels of “competitive education and international development”, “2012 Ceremony for the Cooperation between Eastern Michigan University and Shenzhen Nanshan Branch of Affiliated High School of Peking Universitywas held in our school ceremoniously on 8 May. Meanwhile, there were a series of visits, investigations and communication activities.

Guests from American Eastern Michigan University included Dr. Jann Joseph, the dean of the Education Department, Dr. Akosua Dow, administrator and vice principal of the University, Dr. David M. Anderson, the Associate Professor of Leadership and Consultancy Department of College of Education, Dr. Edwin Joseph, the commissioner of Geo-information System and Exchange of Technology Information Center, Dr. Karen Menke Paciorek, the Professor of College of Early Childhood Education, Michael J. Paciorek, the Professor of Health and Human Behavior course and Assistant Teacher of Kinematics, Dr. Alane Starko, the Professor of Educational Psychology of College of Education and Eva Ye who is studying for doctorate.

Besides, Director of Social Management Office of Nanshan Bureau of Education Sun Bin, Project Manager of International Communication Department of Weiming Education Group Tian Chong, Principal of our school Mei Liansheng and representatives of parents participated in this activity.

The activity was divided into 4 parts, namely, welcome ceremony, ceremony of unveiling the plaque, exchange between 2 schools and forum on international education.

 

Highlight 1: Warm Welcome Ceremony

 

A warm ceremony was held in the assembly room of International Department at 8:40 a.m. Principal Mei Liansheng introduced in detail the basic situation of Shenzhen Nanshan Branch of Affiliated High School of Peking University, including school’s development, educational principle, goals, educational characteristics, development direction curriculum design and summary of Shenzhen on the ceremony. Principal Mei pointed out that high quality courses have been introduced to our school and all the classes has been given by foreign teachers since 2011. The next development goal of our school is to make children integrate into the world better, which is the basic need for the cooperation with Eastern Michigan University. We anticipate more high-quality educational resources are introduced into our school and more outstanding children are sent to America to study.

The dean of the Education Department of Eastern Michigan University Dr.Jann Joseph revealed that Eastern Michigan University is delighted to share its educational achievements of more than 160 years and provide our school with excellent and stable teacher resources and educational teaching resources. It will try its best to support and help to make children become citizens of the world with great leadership and promote common development through cooperation.

Next, Dr.Jann Joseph presented a picture symbolizing the friendship of 2 schools to our school on behalf of Eastern Michigan University. Meanwhile, Principal Mei Liansheng presented ties marked with our school’s educational principle to the visitors from Eastern Michigan University.

 

Highlight 2: Solemn Ceremony of Unveiling the Plaque

 

“2012 Ceremony for the Cooperation between Eastern Michigan University and Shenzhen Nanshan Branch of Affiliated High School of Peking University” was held ceremoniously in the gymnasium of our school at 9:40 a.m.
 

The dean of the Education Department of Eastern Michigan University Dr. Jann Joseph made a speech on the ceremony. She revealed that Eastern Michigan University and our school will share a long-term strategic partnership and cooperate in many aspects, including design of curriculum structure, development of majors, art of leadership and so on. What’s more, more outstanding students will be sent to study in Eastern Michigan University .

Principal Mei thanked all the visitors for their presence on behalf of all the teachers and students of Shenzhen Nanshan Branch of Affiliated High School of Peking University. He mentioned that we should pay more attention to educational exchange in the times of economic globalization. We will build the elites with international awareness, communication and competitiveness based on inheriting the Chinese excellent traditional culture. Hence, Weiming Education Group formulated a scheme of “educate brightly, develop internationally” just for our school. In order to accelerate development, with the support of the Group, our school cooperates with Eastern Michigan University distinguished by longevity after on-the-spot investigation and demonstration, so as to share the Sino-Us high quality educational resources, embrace mutual benefit and provide children with channels with international and pluralistic service.

Principal Mei and Dr.Jann Joseph unveiled the plaque of “Cooperative School Having Cooperation Program with Eastern Michigan University” on the ceremony. Meanwhile, Principal Mei Liansheng and Director of Social Management Office of Nanshan Bureau of Education Sun Bin unveiled the plaque of “Cooperative School of Teacher Training for Eastern Michigan University”, which indicates that our school officially cooperated with Eastern Michigan University.

Next, led by our school’s outstanding students, leaders and professors from Eastern Michigan University visited the campus animatedly. They highly appreciated the graceful, modern and international campus and students’ fluent spoken English as well as outgoing and confident temperament.

 

Highlight 3: Pragmatic International Exchange.

 

Project Manager of International Communication Department of Weiming Education Group Tian Chong, Director Gong Rui of Administrative Center of School, Director Yang Fan of Primary Department, Mr. Li Hongyu, Ms. Sun Shaolei discussed education in depth and in detail with visitors from Eastern Michigan University. Director Yang introduced the curriculum and teachers’ situation to visitors. The leaders and professors from Eastern Michigan University put forward reasonable proposals for how to select those teachers who come to China, train and evaluate teachers and suggested that we can exchange in many modern ways, such as “ON LINE”, namely, foreign teachers can give classes and communicate with students remotely by Internet. This pragmatic and effective exchange laid a foundation for further cooperation.

 

Highlight 4: Marvelous Educational Forum.

 

In the interests of sharing educational resources, improving teachers’ professional development and broadening the horizon of international education, 2 professors of College of Education of Eastern Michigan University shared how to construct “leadership courses” and how to give play to creativity in class with our school’s teachers in the lecture hall at 3:30 p.m.

Dr. David M. Anderson, the Professor of Leadership and Consultancy Department of College of Education, shared the teaching experiences of “Leadership Courses of Eastern Michigan University”. He introduced the courses in 3 aspects, namely, what to teach, how to teach and how to evaluate, and introduced how to improve leadership briefly.

Dr. Alane Starko, the Professor of Educational Psychology of College of Education, made a report on “Creativity in Classes”. She introduced us to what creativity is, why we should develop creativity and how we develop creativity. She pointed out that all the fields require creativity, so teachers must help students to give the rein to their unique creativity in every subject.

Principal Mei summarized briefly. He mentioned that we are about to build an international and superexcellent school, so we need to change educational environment, redesign teaching curriculum and renew teaching organization. He hopes all the teachers are able to renew concepts and work hard to make innovations. He pointed out that our students must own a good grounding in Chinese culture, excellent grade as well as great understanding power for international culture and communication skills for language.

After the bright period of 12 years, our school has taken the lead in non-government funded education in Nanshan District and even Shenzhen by virtue of high quality education, characteristic curriculum system and glorious achievements. As a well-known institution of higher learning in America, Eastern Michigan University, a public university having a history of more than 160 years, establishes 100-plus majors for undergraduates and postgraduates and obtained certification from Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.
